Michael Organ in Parliament 2002-2004
Senator Kerrie Nettle, Michael Organ MHR and Senator Bob Brown 23 October 2003 I, Michael Organ, was elected to the House of Representatives in the Australian federal parliament, Canberra, at a by-election for the seat of Cunningham in October 2002. I was the first member of the Australian Greens elected to such a position. At the time there were two Greens senators in Canberra - Bob Brown from Tasmania and Kerrie Nettle from New South Wales. I served until the following general election in October 2004. During that 2 year period, parliament sat in Canberra for 32 weeks and my staff and I were very active participants. I was also involved in extra-parliamentary activities such as membership of the Select Committee on Bushfires, and a foreign country visit to Taiwan.
