Martin Sharp and Robert Whitaker
In June 1966 Australian artist Martin Sharp arrived in London, after an overland journey from Sydney via South East Asia. One of the first people Sharp hooked up with was fellow Australian photographer Robert Whitaker, who had been in the UK as an official photographer for The Beatles. Sharp remained in resident in London through to the end of 1968 prior to returning to Sydney. During that period he worked with Whitaker on a number of occasions, most notably in development of the record cover art for Cream's LP Disraeli Gears. Less well known are the various collaged photographs the pair worked on, especially during the period 1966-7. Some of these are reproduced below. 1.
