Fender Vibrasonic Reverb amplifier 1977-79

1. Looking for an amp

A friend recently sought to identify the precise date of manufacture and specifications of a Fender Vibrasonic Reverb 100 Watt guitar amplifier. The one in question was made by Fender Musical Instruments of Fullerton, California.

The front face of the amplifier shows the following detail: Vibrasonic Reverb with the following controls - Normal 1 & 2 input / Bright switch / Dials: Volume / Treble / Middle / Bass /// Vibrato 1 & 2 input / Bright switch / Dials: Volume / Treble / Middle / Bass / Reverb / Speed / Intensity / Master Volume / On/off light.

On the rear, the 300W label refers to the AC input power, not the power output, which varies from 100W to 135W. This is shown in the following two illustrations.

Specifications of the present example include:

  • Four power tubes (replacements), being Electro-Harmonix beam power tetrodes / vacuum power tubes 6L6EH. Made in Russia.
  • Legend 15 inch speaker, replacing the original JBL D-130-F.
  • Brushed aluminium control plate, used from 1972 to 1979.
  • Tailless Fender logo on the front, dating from 1977 onwards.

No unique identifiers for the amplifier were noted.

3. Summary

It would seem that the Fender Vibrasonic Reverb 100W guitar amplifier in question dates from 1977-79. The specifications have changed from the original due to the replacement of the four power tubes and 15 inch speaker. No other changes were noted, apart from wear and tear.
