"Drive baby, drive, drive!" - the death of Renee Good
![]() |
| Renee Good, circa 2019 (Russell 2026). |
These words, as uttered by Rebecca Brown Good, will haunt all those who hear them and see the result, namely, the death of her partner Renee Nicole Macklin Good, a 37 year old American woman, a Christian, poet, and mother of three, including 15 and 6 year old sons and a 12 year old daughter. The tragedy took place on Portland Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota, around 9.50 am on Wednesday, 7 January 2026. The words "Drive baby, drive, drive!" were uttered by Rebecca to Renee as the former stood by the passenger side door of their car about to get in, and upon seeing and hearing an ICE officer attempt to extract Renee from the driver's seat of their Honda Pilot SUV and arrest her. This was after the officer had ordered Renee to get out of the car so it could be removed from its obstructive position in the middle of the single-lane Portland Road. As soon as she refused to obey this order, Renee had technically created a second felony, on top of the initial one of engaging in obstruction of ICE officers in carrying out their duty. She would exacerbate this situation when she created a third felony by following Rebecca's instructions and attempting to escape from the scene, and a fourth by running into a federal ICE agent, later identified as Jonathan Ross. Renee Good was shot in an act of self-defence by the latter ICE officer as Renee's car accelerated towards him and hit him. He was also motivated by a desire to protect his colleague who was in the process of extracting Renee from the car, and whose arm was inside the car. According to this official scenario, Renee Good was not "executed" or "murdered" as individuals and the media stated. She died as a result of her own misguided actions. Of course she should not have died that day, but circumstances led to her death and to the presence of a defence on the part of officialdom. That defence and the circumstances leading up to that are outlined below.

1. Train of events
As of the date of writing (11 January 2026) the present author had viewed all the then publically available videos and listened to both witness testimony and commentary by individuals on all sides of the political fence, including experts in the fields of policing and protesting. It should also be noted that the writer is Australian and not aware of the level of anti-ICE feeling present across America at the time of the shooting, or the reasons behind that, and oblivious to the widespread community-based involvement in disrupting its activities though organisations such as ICE Watch. Having taken this information into account, it seemed clear at the time that the following took place:
- Renee Good and her partner Rebecca Good were part of a local branch of the ICE Watch group operating out of a local school and whose role was to "monitor, track, interfere [with] and oppose ongoing immigration enforcement operations" by US Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) officers.
Comment: The action of ICE Watch was illegal, and made so under various US legal statues at both the federal and state level. The ICE officers and individuals were basically police officers operating in the US federal jurisdiction and tasked with arresting illegal aliens and related criminals subject to deportation orders. In the immediate past, such operations had been carried out with little or no controversy. For example, during the President Obama administration some 3.1 million individuals were deported in association with ICE operations, with little or no controversy. However, since the election of President Donald Trump campaigns had been implemented against ICE and its efforts to close the US borders and remove illegal aliens. These efforts were generally opposed by the Democrats and the Left in the United States, and actively so in Sanctuary Cities such as San Francisco, Chicago and Minneapolis. In other locations throughout the US there was little or no opposition, such as in Illinois. Statements by officials such as governors, mayors and politicians called on members of the public to engage in obviously illegal activities and can be said to be culpable in the death of Renee Good. It is clear that whilst the Goods were free to protest against such actions by the Trump administration, or any other administration, no American citizen was free to interfere with them. The law clearly indicated that. The Goods and their associates - "our neighbours" - should not have been directly interfering in these ICE operations and impeding them. That was illegal. Yet this is what they were doing on the day, as can be seen from the video evidence. Other available videos reveal that this was a specific program being carried out across Minneapolis and the United States, being highly organised and with participants having received prior, though limited, training. It also seems clear that Renee Good was unaware of the dire legal situation she put herself in and which resulted in the loss of her life. Whether her partner Rebecca Good - a former military veteran - was also oblivious is unclear. Whilst one would suspect that she had respect for law enforcement officers, her behaviour on the day, as seen in the ICE officer's video which recorded his interactions with her, would indicate otherwise. The following video by a lawyer points to the basic illegalities surrounding both the peaceful and violent protests against the work of ICE which played a role in the deaths of both Renee Good on 7 January and Alex Pretti on 24 January 2026.
The Real Legal Issue with ICE Shootings That No One Is Talking About, Washington Gun Law, 26 January 2026, YouTube, duration: 9.45 minutes. - Renee Good and her partner, after having dropped their child off at school, had tracked the path of an ICE operation and driven to a street where they parked their car in the middle of the road. Their aim in carrying out this action was to impede ICE officers. They were said to be taking a leadership role in the ICE Watch action on Portland Street that day.
- Three ICE officers pulled up in two cars and approached Renee's car. She immediately refused to obey the directions of the ICE officers, namely to "get out of the car" to enable them to remove it from blocking the road. She locked the doors on the car as one officer tried to open the door and physically remove her from the vehicle. Another officer circled the vehicle taking video of the car and of Rebecca and Renee.
- Rebecca encouraged Renee to flee from the scene when she shouted to her "Drive baby, drive, drive!" By that stage the third ICE officer had circled the vehicle and was standing directly in front of the vehicle with his gun drawn.
- Renee then drove the car straight at an ICE officer and hit him as she turned to go up the road. She clearly saw him, having previously spoken to him.
- As the car headed in his direction, the officer Jon Ross yelled "Stop" and as he was hit he fired three shots at her - one through the front windscreen and another two through the side window, resulting in her death shortly thereafter. Comments: The three shots were fired almost simultaneously. Renee appeared to be looking directly at him as she drove forward and hit the accelerator. In the few brief seconds during which this incident took place Renee was moving the wheels of her car from facing left to facing right; in the middle they were facing directly at Ross as she accelerated towards him. The three shots were fired apparently just prior to her sideswiping him and hitting him in the upper thigh.
- As per standard operating procedure, the officer walked up to the crashed vehicle and ascertained the state of Renee. He then asked his colleagues to ring 911 for immediate medical support. He was then taken from the scene, as required, as it is not appropriate for an officer involved in a shooting to render assistance to the victim, unless there was nobody else available. Apparently there were fire brigade personal available nearby who initially dealt with Renee until the medical personnel arrived around 15 minutes later. The officer did not "flee the scene" as one media report stated. Other ICE officers refused an offer of assistance from a local resident who claimed he was a physician.

The case was put for self-defence on the part of the officer, and his likely fear that his colleague would be injured as, at the time, he had his arm in the vehicle and was attempting to extract Renee. Her actions in refusing the officer's directions to get out of the car meant that she was now under arrest, having committed a felony. Her additional action of seeking to leave the scene was the third felony. The fourth felony occurred when she used her vehicle to hit the ICE officer. For these actions she paid with her life. As Rebecca Good exclaimed on the site shortly thereafter, upon viewing the dead body of her partner in the car which had smashed into a nearby telegraph pole:
"I made her come down here. It's my fault .... I am responsible for this..." (Rebecca Good)
On Sunday, 11 January 2026, Rebecca Good issued the following statement on The Resistance Facebook website:
First, I want to extend my gratitude to all the people who have reached out from across the country and around the world to support our family. This kindness of strangers is the most fitting tribute because if you ever encountered my wife, Renee Nicole Macklin Good, you know that above all else, she was kind. In fact, kindness radiated out of her. Renee sparkled. She literally sparkled. I mean, she didn’t wear glitter but I swear she had sparkles coming out of her pores. All the time. You might think it was just my love talking but her family said the same thing. Renee was made of sunshine. Renee lived by an overarching belief: there is kindness in the world and we need to do everything we can to find it where it resides and nurture it where it needs to grow. Renee was a Christian who knew that all religions teach the same essential truth: we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole.
Like people have done across place and time, we moved to make a better life for ourselves. We chose Minnesota to make our home. Our whole extended road trip here, we held hands in the car while our son drew all over the windows to pass the time and the miles. What we found when we got here was a vibrant and welcoming community, we made friends and spread joy. And while any place we were together was home, there was a strong shared sense here in Minneapolis that we were looking out for each other. Here, I had finally found peace and safe harbor. That has been taken from me forever.
We were raising our son to believe that no matter where you come from or what you look like, all of us deserve compassion and kindness. Renee lived this belief every day. She is pure love. She is pure joy. She is pure sunshine. On Wednesday, January 7th, we stopped to support our neighbors. We had whistles. They had guns.
Renee leaves behind three extraordinary children; the youngest is just six years old and already lost his father. I am now left to raise our son and to continue teaching him, as Renee believed, that there are people building a better world for him. That the people who did this had fear and anger in their hearts, and we need to show them a better way. We thank you for the privacy you are granting our family as we grieve. We thank you for ensuring that Renee’s legacy is one of kindness and love. We honor her memory by living her values: rejecting hate and choosing compassion, turning away from fear and pursuing peace, refusing division and knowing we must come together to build a world where we all come home safe to the people we love. - Rebecca
It is notable that within this statement no mention is made of the brutality of the outcome of the ICE Watch activities. Neither does not repeat her earlier statement taking some responsibility for what happen. She does not address the fact that in pursuing this ideal of peace, love and compassion, both her and Renee were about breaking the law and causing harm to the work of federal law enforcement. She does not comment on the taunting, condescending language she directed to the ICE officer on the day of the shooting, prior to the shooting and as seen in his video. Her statement is presented in a flowery language reflecting an ideological stance rather than a sincere, truthful assessment of reality. At the end of the day, it did not matter how kind and loving Renee was - she died because of the consequences of her own actions. It was a pointless, stupid death.
There were a number of occasions in which Renee's fate could have been otherwise that day. She could have not engaged with the ICE Watch program and took a local leadership role along with Rebecca; she could have not gone to Portland Avenue that morning and parked her car in the middle of the road to hinder ICE operations; she could have stepped out of the car when legally ordered to do so by ICE agents, instead of locking the door to prevent their access; she could not have tried to leave the scene, as told to do by Rebecca; and she could have stopped and not driven at, and hit, the ICE officer who happened to be in the front of the car, filming and with gun drawn at the time, having realised that his colleague had his arm in the car trying to open the door and may have become trapped and dragged along, as had happened to him six months previous during a similar arrest event. Instead he was forced to both defend himself and protect his colleague by shooting her three times in rapid succession.
This was a tragedy which should never have happened. The women should not have been impeding the work of legitimate law enforcement ICE officers and undertaking illegal activity, forcing the ICE officers to respond, rather than simply go about the business of which they were required to do. Renee should not have sought to leave the scene after being directed to exit the car, and she should not have driven directly towards, and hit the ICE officer. Of course, this scenario is not how many people, both in the United States and around the world, see this event. They deny any capability on behalf of the Goods; they refer to ICE officers as Nazis and Gestapo; they ignore the legitimate work of ICE in arresting and removing illegal aliens, many of whom are criminals and have been through a court process which has determined that they should be either imprisoned or removed from the United States. With the majority of the US population supportive of law enforcement, they are very much bucking the system and engaging in illegal activities that are very much in opposition to the well-being of the residents of the county. The anti-ICE defence is usually a political one; not a legal or moral one.
Rebecca Good is alleged to be a member of the National Lawyers Guild as she was wearing a hat, though this does not necessarily mean she was a lawyer or had legal training. Her encouragement of Renee to engage in illegal activities would suggest that she either had little understanding of the law, or little respect for it. The latter is most likely, based on her actions and the actions of Renee who was obviously under her influence to a degree. This is not to excuse Renee of responsibility for her actions. As a 37 year old, she is of course responsible, unless there were unknown and extenuating circumstances which abrogate her from that responsibility. The following timeline was posted on Reddit:
The following list corresponds to each image in this post, and includes a time reference to the video and a description of what's happening (https://www.reddit.com/r/ICE_Raids/comments/1q6nurs/direct_view_of_ice_agent_murdering_woman_in/).
0:01 — The victim's vehicle is the Honda Pilot. Highlighted in the image is the driver (the victim) waving ICE vehicles through [Comment: Renee was waving local vehicles through, not ICE vehicles] , and we see one, the silver SUV, easily passing. The major takeaway here is that, at this point in the encounter, the victim was not blocking the road.[Comment: Wrong. She was blocking the road when the two ICE vehicles arrived to remove it.]
0:04 — Here we see another ICE vehicle, the Nissan Titan pickup, approaching the victim's vehicle, and again, she's waving them through. [Comment: No, she was not waving vehicles through. She was there to specfically impede ICE vehicles.]
0:11 — The ICE agents in the Nissan Titan stop, exit the pickup, and approach the victim's vehicle. Take note that as the agents approach, the victim's vehicle is already in reverse.[Comment: The ICE officers had told Renee to get out of the car. She was getting ready to escape.]
0:13 — The ICE agents aggressively try to open the victim's driver's side door while the vehicle is in motion, but the door is locked.[Comment: Renee had refused the order to get out of the car and then locked the door.]
0:14 — A lot is happening here, and it's probably the most important image in the slide deck. First, the vehicle is no longer in reverse, but it had been drifting backward due to momentum and is only starting to move forward at this very moment. We can also see the front wheels turning right. This is also where we start to get our first glimpse of the shooter in the frame, and what's interesting is, you can see that he's already drawing his firearm.
0:14 — The front wheels are turning away from the ICE agent toward the front-left side of the vehicle, who has now drawn his sidearm.[Comment: The wheels were turning from left to right and were directed directly forward towards the officer when he fired the first shot.]
0:15 — The first shot is fired. Followed quickly by a second shot. The vehicle is fully turned away from the ICE agents, and does not appear to be making contact with any of them as it moves forward. The agent firing his weapon is clearly to the side of the vehicle and out of its path. A zoomed-in and slow-motion video corroborates this accounting.[Comment: Renee had driven at speed directly at the officer as he shot her. Her wheels were in the process of moving from left to right and she hit him as this was happening. In seeking to escape from the scene she was committing a felony.]
0:16 — The ICE agent moves alongside the vehicle and fires a third shot. [Comment: The three shots were taken almost simultaneously as the car headed directly towards the officer, hit him and moved to the right.]
0:52 — The victim's vehicle has crashed, and we see the shooter walking back from the crash site with no apparent injuries. [Comment: The officer can be seen limping and it was later revealed that he suffered internal bleeding from when Renee hit him.]
0:57 — This man is a murderer. [Comment: The officer shot Renee in self-defence.]
As can be seen from this commentary, the comments vary from the known facts. The problem here is that the events happened so quickly, that unless it is looked at in minute detail and forensically it is easy to make statements such as " Renee's car did not hit the officer", "Renee was not driving towards the officer," etc.

2. Videos
The actual events
A number of videos were taken of the event at the time, and interviews with witnesses, both on site and later on TV. They were released in piecemeal fashion over the days following and included domestic surveillance or mobile phone video footage:
- [Surveillance] Renee Good's car arrives on the scene. Rebecca Good hops out of the car. Vision taken from a grassy residential area on the front left side of the car. Portrait. Blurry image due to expansion from original.
- [Surveillance] Close up view from above on events in Portland Street three minutes before the shooting, with the video ending just as the ICE car arrives to ask Renee to get out of the car. This reveals Renee using her horn whilst sitting in the middle of the road. You also see the first ICE vehicle arrive, park to the back and left of her, and the ICE officer who shot her get out of another car and begin to walk around it. Watermark: A@davidharrisjr (Instagram).
- [Smartphone] The "Murderers" video. Available on Reddit here. View from the opposite side of the road and moving up to the car as it hits the tree. A lot of anger and language by the holder of the phone. A very traumatic video, capturing the shock and horror of the shooting. Duration: 4.25 minutes.
- [Smartphone] View from the opposite side of Portland Road, behind Rebecca Good's car. The most well known video and the earliest release. Shows the complete event, from the ICE car pulling up to the left, the encounter between Renee Good and ICE officers, the escape and the shooting, with the car driving off to the right. Clear, good quality and sound, full landscape image.
- [Surveillance] The car moving off and hitting the ICE officer, taken from a distance across the street in front of the car. Portrait, blown up and sped up image.
- [Surveillance] Another distant view showing the car moving off, hitting the officer and careening on to hit a car and pole. Portrait, blown up image.
- [Eugene Bentley smartphone] Rebecca Good sitting on the side of the road next to the car after having viewed Renee's body in the car and taking the dog out of the car. Portrait image, clear.
- [Emily Heller smartphone] A person claiming to be a doctor asks to go and check Renee. Neighbour Emily Heller stands across the road from the smashed car, with the door open and Renee visible. She begins to verbally abuse an ICE officer. She is later interviewed on CNN.
- [MS NOW TV] Television crew footage of paramedics working on Renee before placing her in the back of an ambulance.
- [Smartphone] Paramedics carrying Renee's body around the corner 15 minutes after the shooting and attempting CPR.
- [Emily Heller interview] A local neighbour being interviewed on CNN.
- [Smartphone] Video by a 19 year old man from a second storey room overlooking the shooting.

3. Witnesses and statements
* Eugene Bentley - a local resident who lived on the side of the road near where the car crashed. He recorded on his phone his encounter with Rebecca Good (transcribed above); there is a brief comment in a Fox-9 report; and he also gave a live video on site interview to MS NOW.
* Rebecca Good - took a video of the incident as it occurred. She was recorded by Eugene Bentley slumped near the car after the shooting, with their dog by her side and crying. She subsequently made a short comment in writing on the event.
Rebecca: You want to come at us? You want to come at us? I said go get your lunch, big boy. Drive baby, drive, drive.
* Renee Good. The victim. Comments captured on the mobile phone of Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who shot her.
Renee: I'm not mad at you.
These are the final words we have of Renee Good, and they are prophetic. What did she mean, precisely? Is she telling Ross that she is not mad at him, but she is mad at something else, or somebody else? It would seem so. The calmness of her demeanor would also suggest, unfortunately, that she was not in a panic but merely followed the instructions of Rebecca when told to drive away with haste. Who knows.....
* David J. Harris Jr. - a local neighbour who recorded an extensive pre-incident video of events along Portland Street in the 9 minutes leading up to the shooting. Live audio, but no speech or commentary.
* Trevor Heitkamp - takes video of the event from the side of the road, behind the car. Live audio, no commentary but one can hear the ICE officer commands. This was the most significant video and the first to be publically shown widely.
* Emily Heller - local resident who lived across the road from the shooting and saw it all happen. Gave an interview on site shortly thereafter, and later more expansive on CNN. The audio on her original smartphone video is heated and takes place looking across the road toward the smashed car, with a view through the open right door of Renee slumped over the blood-soaked airbag.
- [Video transcript] Dr: Can I go check the pulse. ICE agent: No. Back off. Now. Dr.: I'm a physician. ICE: I don't care. We got EMS coming, and I get it. Just give us a second. We have medics on scene. We have our own medics. Heller: Where are they? Where are they? ICE: Relax. Heller: How can I relax? You just killed my fucking neighbor. You cunts shot her in the face. You killed my fucking neighbor. How do you show up to work every day? How the fuck do you do this every day? You're killing my neighbors. You're stealing my neighbors. What the fuck man.
- [On site interview] I woke up to some commotion outside - some whistles going off. I came down stairs to see what was going on. I wasn't even dressed. There was a car - the Honda Pilot that's crashed over there now - there was a car blocking two lanes of Portland traffic. And ICE agents got out and they were saying "Get out of here, get out of here." She was - it looked like she was trying to turn around and the ICE agent was in front of her car and he pulled out a gun and put it right in - his mid-drift was on her bumper...."
- [CNN interview] Heller: I hadn't even gotten dressed. I was making breakfast. I came [down], I went out, I heard the commotion. I heard whistles, which is a common sign of ICE is nearby, and I went out onto my front porch. I didn't even have shoes on, and within 60 seconds everything had already gone down. But there was an ICE convoy that seemed to be stuck, and then there was a protester [Renee Good] who was blocking traffic, so they couldn't progress. And she was totally peaceful, and ICE seemed completely unorganized. They didn't really know what they were doing. They were screaming at her to move, move, move. And then they approached her vehicle aggressively. Grab, tried to open her door. And then that's when she got spooked, and she reversed her vehicle to turn her wheels to try to escape. And that's when an ICE agent stepped in front of her vehicle and said "Stop", and then, I mean she was already moving, and then point blank, shot her through her windshield, in the face.
Interviewer: I can't imagine what it was to see that, Emily, the way that you are laying this out, though I just want to repeat and make sure that I'm clear, and please correct me if I say anything wrong. You're saying that what you saw was disorganized ICE, but then when they tried to get her to stop, she got spooked. She reversed her car to try to turn her wheels to get away, and that was when the officer stepped in front.
Heller: They were telling her to leave. They were telling her to move. And then all of a sudden they were, it seemed like they were trying to get her. So they were telling her to move, and then in a split second they were saying, they were trying to get her out of the car. So it was like she was trying to move when once they were trying to get in her car, she was of course, she wanted to leave at that point. They're extremely aggressive.
Interviewer: She would have been scared, obviously. You know, President Trump, as you know, he posted a video saying that it's lucky the ICE agent was alive. And I just want to be clear. The ICE agent is walking afterwards and we know that from anything that he had now, he's fine. He's out. But President Trump posted there.
Heller: Oh, he just stood there.
Interviewer: Go ahead, go ahead. Tell me what you're going to say about what he did afterwards.
Heller: Oh, he he just stood there. The other ICE agents surrounded him. He was obviously spooked, too. I mean, they seem like children. They seem like untrained people. And so that agent was obviously spooked because he had just killed someone, and it was very obvious to everyone who had witnessed it all that she would not make it. And so they kind of gathered around him and then there was a gold SUV that came and they put him in it and got him out of there because everyone knew he had murdered someone.
Interviewer: So President Trump says the woman was disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully and viciously ran over the ICE officer who seems to have shot her in self-defense. He shared a video of the incident, from a different angle. What's your response to that version of events?
Heller: I mean, that's the only reason why I'm here. I don't think I'm the most articulate person. I don't want to be here, but I knew that this would be twisted, and it would be self-defense, and that's absolutely not what happened. But it's just my life is forever changed for having witnessed this, and I just can't let this narrative that it was self-defense go any further because it's absolutely not what it was. And, yeah, my neighborhood, my neighbors, we're all going to be pretty traumatized from this for a long time.
Interviewer: When in that video that you shared with us that I just played the 34 seconds, you know, you're obviously incredibly distraught and there's a doctor next to you or near you. We can, you know, hear him saying I'm a physician, I can help. And they say, no, we have our own medics. But the doctor's there offering to administer CPR, standing right there. I don't want you to have to relive what you were looking at, when the horror of her death. But how did agents respond to him? Was there a speed and a desperation in trying to get any sort of assistance to her. Because it didn't sound like that from what you gave us?
Heller: Yeah. They wouldn't let him near. And they said they had their own medics that were on their way, which it was, I mean, I don't know, it was at least 15 minutes before the ambulance arrived and then the ambulance couldn't even get through because the ICE agents had all abandoned their vehicles in the road, so the ambulance couldn't get through. So they parked at the end of the block and about five paramedics came in and examined her. I didn't see this, but I think they were with her for a few minutes, and then they carried her limp body away, by her limbs. Not even on a stretcher. Just carried her down to the end of the block where they could get a stretcher. Because they couldn't get through with their ambulance.
[NBC interview] ..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_n-OTT8zKM Interviewer: Emily, it's Hallie. Can you hear us? Okay. Yep. Thank you for being with us. Can you tell us. First of all, where you were and what you saw?
Heller: I was standing on my front porch. I had was just making breakfast, and I heard the commotion. I heard the honking and the whistles. My neighbor has had a really well organized response to the ICE raids, and so I knew when I heard whistles there was ICE nearby. So I was standing on my front porch. I hadn't even put shoes on yet, and within probably 60 seconds of me standing on my front porch the protester was shot in the face in front of my house. Almost immediately.
Interviewer: Can you tell me, Emily, and I know this is an incredibly emotional day for you. What happened in the moments leading up to this? In other words, when you talk about those 60 seconds, if I understand it correctly, it was clear there was some sort of demonstration before you walked outside, right, because you could hear the whistles, and when you walked out, what specifically was happening in the street?
Heller: There was a convoy of ICE vehicles, maybe 6 or 7, and some of the ICE agents had gotten out of their vehicles. And some of the protesters, some of them were on foot. The woman who was shot was in a Honda Pilot, and she was parked perpendicular to traffic. She was blocking traffic as part of her peaceful protest, and the ICE agents were telling her to "Move, move, move" and just seemed totally chaotic. The protesters seemed way more organized than the ICE agents did. It was totally chaotic, and the ICE agents were telling her to "Move, move, move." And then they approached her vehicle and grabbed the driver's side door to try to open it and pull her out, I imagine. And then that's when she, I'm sure, got spooked and she started to reverse. She reversed a little bit so she could angle her wheels to [go out]. It's a one way [street]. So she could only go out one way and she reversed. And then she started to accelerate forward. And then one of the ICE agents stepped in front of her and yelled, Stop!, and then leaned over the front of the hood of her car and shot her in the face. It was about 3 or 4 shots.
Interviewer: Emily, this level of detail is, I think, helpful. As we are looking at some of the videos you're describing it. So I want to repeat this back to you because you describe the woman who was killed as a protester. Can you, to be clear, it sounds as though you're saying she was in her car protesting by blocking the convoy of ICE or federal vehicles that was coming up this one way street. Do I have that right?
Heller: Correct.
Interviewer: Okay. And she as you were showing the video now where she's you describe her angling her wheels and pulling off. What happened in the moments after? What did you see in those moments?
Heller: I heard the pops. And then it's like she just put her foot on the gas, like fully, and drove off and she sped off. And immediately you could tell from the shots it was fatal. There was no way she was going to survive. But she immediately hit a lamp post and then ran into some cars as well. And then she was just sitting in her car, slumped over. And by this point I had gotten my shoes on. I was outside recording. I had, I believe it was a neighbor who showed up and he was saying he was a medic or he was a physician, and he wanted to administer CPR. And at this point it was just ICE agents, and they were extremely rude and just told him to shut up and get back. "We don't care. We have our own EMS coming." And it took 15 minutes for EMS to arrive. And then when they did arrive, they couldn't get through with the ambulance. So they just came on foot and then examined her for a few minutes, maybe five minutes and then they carried her out by her limbs, like a sack of potatoes. There was no stretcher. They had to walk her to the corner to get closer to the ambulance.
Interviewer: Emily, we're showing some of the video that you provided here, some of the video that you're talking about, the neighbor, apparently, or the person you said that was saying, I'm a physician, etcetera. So we're seeing that interaction as you're talking. How long had this protest, the whistles, the convoy that you heard, how long had the demonstration been going on before you stepped outside? Do you have any sense of that?
Heller: It was pretty quick because I had just come downstairs, so it was maybe a couple of minutes. I think they just, they were, they had been mobile, and then when she parked her car, she had successfully disrupted their mission.
Interviewer: Was she with anybody?
Heller: Apparently there was someone in her car earlier. But when I, by the time I was outside, there was no one else in her car. She was alone.
Interviewer: Okay. How are you doing now, Emily?
Heller: Just running on adrenaline.
Interviewer: Yeah. What's your street like at the moment?
Heller: There's a vigil happening. There's people gathering. There's a lot of people just coming out to grieve together.
Interviewer: Can you give us a sense when you're, I know you've had conversations with your neighbors, with your village, with your community here, of how people are feeling in Minneapolis? We heard from your mayor, the city mayor, who called the actions here and the description from the Trump administration "BS". He told ICE to "Get the fuck out" essentially using using that language, as you know. Emily, what is it like in the city, based on your interactions with the people around you?
Heller: I don't know, I'm just getting bombarded with calls from reporters, and everyone that I've ever met in my life is texting me and reaching out. Total grifters. This is just like it's overwhelming. It's complete, absolute chaos and nonsense.
Interviewer: Emily Heller, thank you very much for sharing your perspective and your video with us and helping us fill in some of the details here.
* Jonathan Ross - the ICE agent who shot Renee Good. His mobile phone video was released to reveal the events around the shooting. The only sound uttered by him is as follows
Ross: Whooh! (as he is hit by the car).
* Unidentified ICE officer Fucking bitch (after Renee drives off).
* Unidentified ICE officer - they attempted to arrest Renee Good when she refused to get out of the car and subsequently drove off.
ICE officer: Get out of the car. Get out of the fucking car. Get out of the car.

4. The ICE arrest incident
On 10 January the Megyn Kelly podcast on YouTube released undated, though recent, video footage from Renee Good's mobile phone of her attendance at an ICE arrest incident, perhaps somewhere in Minneapolis. In that footage she is shown being forcefully directed by ICE officers to move away from the location of the arrest, as they state she is putting herself in danger. As she is moved back by a number of officers she reveals to them that her six year old son is in her car nearby, unattended. The officers are incredulous and caution her to the danger and to the fact the this behaviour is unacceptable, to say the least. One female officer tells her forcefully to take her child away from the scene.
[Renee Good and child at ICE arrest scene], Megyn Kelly, 10 January 2026, YouTube, duration: 11.59 minutes.
To put her child, and herself, in danger in this way is a prelude to what happened on 7 January. Some commentators have suggested that because public officials such as governors and lord mayors are encouraging people to harass ICE officers, they believe that they can do this without consequences. The fact is, they cannot, and to harass or impede any police or federal law enforcement officer can and will result in arrest and possible imprisonment. Another example of this is seen where an elderly woman harasses a law enforcement officer and is eventually arrested, handcuffed and taken away. The officer, who is clearly engaged in a mission, silently warns her to go away, to not make any noise, and to not intefer in what he is doing. She continues to harass him, and he is eventually forced to call in support. Though this video is presented in a humourous fashion, the incident is very serious, revealing the delusional behaviour of individuals who think that they are above the law and can openly and freely harass law enforcement officers.

6. Comments
Renee Good's death is a tragedy, for many reasons, not least of all the fact that she was the mother of three young children, the youngest of whom has now lost both parents. Renee should never have died; she did not deserve to die. However, her death is clearly the result of her own actions, and of those around her, including her partner Rebecca Good. Why? Because she naively took herself into dangerous situations, ignored the dangers she faced, and in following a certain ideology, this reckless behaviour resulted in her death. Not only will her friends and family now bear this tragedy for years to come, but also the officer who shot her will likely suffer accordingly, despite the fact that his actions in both defending himself and his colleagues were reasonable. No, it is not the fault of ICE or President Donald Trump or any other person involved in the campaign to rid Minneapolis of illegal immigrants and criminals. Blame can, however, be apportioned to those individuals who directed and encouraged Renee Good to go down this dangerous path of activism, without cautioning her, or themselves exhibiting compassion towards her in questioning what she was being encouraged to do, without highlighting the danger. Were they aware of the danger? Perhaps not. However, Rebecca Good, following the death of her partner, immediately recognised her culpability in the tragic death. The lesson her is - do your research, as a parent do not take yourself and your children into dangerous situations, and remember that your number one responsibility is to protect those children until they come of age. In order to achieve that, you should also protect yourself, especially if you are responsible for the child and the other parent is deceased. This basic task is reflected in the shock of the female ICE officer who confronted Renee when she realised that she had left her six year old son in the car whilst she attended an ICE arrest scene. The officer was incredulous that she would do that. However it reveals to us that Renee was not cognisant of the dangerous behaviour she was undertaking, and the danger she was putting her son in. This was also evident at the Portland Road event, where she disobeyed the orders of the ICE officers to get out of her car, and then attempted to escape from the scene, in the process of which she ran into an ICE officer. All of this is clearly evident when the information and videos presented above are brought together. To ignore any of the evidence, and blame others, is clearly wrong. Should the ICE protests continue? Yes, they should, but only if they are simply a peaceful expression of individual concerns over elements of their activities. The protests should not involve interfering in any of the ICE activities, or in violently attacking ICE officers and officials. The present writer, as a life-long Lefty / liberal, supports the ICE operation and deplores the activities of the protesters in interfering with them and in physically, verbally and psychologically attacking ICE individuals, causing them harm. There are many lessons to be learnt from the tragic death of Renee Good, the number one being that as rational human beings and parents we need to stay out of danger where possible, and accept our overriding responsibility to our children as they grow into adults.
The international reaction to the death of Renee good, in the form of anti-ICE and anti-Trump protests, also highlights the political nature of the event and its misrepresentation by individuals and organisations which seek to gain from the tragedy. The writer has observed that many of the commentators in support of these protests fail to recognise the facts of the case, selectively presenting information to support their views. As such, those who take on board their arguments are deceived. The present article aims to present factual information so that such deception is negated, where possible.
The major problem with the shooting of Renee Good is that it has been taken from simply being a local incident, involving two community members and three ICE officers, resulting in a death; to an issue which is being used to represent the ICE political issue, which is national. Renee Good is transformed from a naive, activist felon to a saintly martyr; Johnathan Ross goes from being a cop on the beat doing his job and protecting himself and his colleagues, to a mindless executioner. Both assessment mix fact with fantasy, and neither of the two victims - Good and Ross - deserve that.

7. Final thoughts.....
The West rests upon two pillars - Love and Law (the Light). Ever present and seeking to dismantle those pillars is Hate and Disorder (the Dark). Whenever an individual strays outside of the Light into the Dark - and every person does so at some stage in their life, knowingly or unknowingly - disaster can strike. Within the Light we find a myriad of pathways to follow - peace, love, compassion, law and order, justice, freedom, democracy, empathy, equality, safety; within the Dark alternate and sometimes overlapping pathways exist - disorder, hate, narcissism, danger, freedom, discrimination, violence, corruption, revenge, and anarchy. In the story of Renee Good we see many of these pathways at play. On one side there is Renee the fighter for justice and freedom, working within her community and partner through ICE Watch to oppose the evil she saw in the ICE operation taking place in her city. Unfortunately, in going down that path, she also entered into areas of disorder, hatred, criminality and violence. The result was her tragic, untimely, and unwarranted death - a death which should never have happened and which will forever remain shrouded in controversy, with both sides proclaiming guilt on the part of the other, and nothing being learnt.

8. Postscript: Alex Pretti
On 24 January 2026 another ICE protester was shot and killed on the streets of Minneapolis by an ICE officer. The circumstances were similar, but different, though also giving rise to community outrage. As of writing, the precise circumstances are unclear, but it seems he put himself in a difficult situation which ultimately led to his death. Pretti had a concealed weapon (not illegal), resisted arrest (illegal), hit an ICE officer (illegal), had two stacks of cartridges on his person (not illegal) and was seen as a threat by a number of ICE officers (unfortunate). It seems that if he had of simply not resisted arrest, and put his exposed hands down to reveal that he was not a threat, there would have been a different outcome.
